This May the Society of Ohio Archivists will return in person together for our annual meeting! You are invited to join us on Friday, May 20 from 9am-4pm at the beautiful Columbus Metropolitan Main Library in downtown Columbus, Ohio for a full day of presentations, networking, and an exciting plenary speaker. The theme of this year’s meeting is Archives & Sustainability.

The Annual Meeting is being held as an in-person only event. For those unable to attend the in-person meeting, some content such as speaker slides will be made available following the meeting. It will not be recorded. We will be offering a virtual workshop in the fall of 2022 for those interested in online programming. Stay tuned for more information on the workshop later this summer. The Society of Ohio Archivists Advocacy and Outreach Committee announces the 2022 update to its Social Media Engagement Calendar for Ohio Archives.
This Google Doc features social media engagement opportunities including monthly observances and holidays (both national and international), known hashtag prompts, and general information. this resource will hopefully provide you and your archival repositories with new outlets for sharing material, interacting with fellow archives and the public.
A&O plans to continue to provide yearly updates. Please feel free to share with us any other special days, hashtags, and opportunities for engagement throughout the year if you don’t see them listed! We’ll continue to add to the calendar as we learn new things!

With this in mind, we decided to highlight archival holdings related to all aspects of healthcare for this year’s poster, which will be distributed for Archives Month in October.
Does your archive have images related to local hospitals, health clinics? Photos of doctors, nurses, other healthcare professionals? Images related to vaccination clinics, health crises, medical tools, or other healthcare related events or activities? All of these are examples for wonderful submissions! Continue reading

The 2021 annual Ohio Local History Alliance and Society of Ohio Archivists fall meeting (virtual), was held Thursday September 30-Saturday October 2, with the theme of Challenge Accepted: Overcoming Obstacles.

The SOA Membership & Awards Committee seeks nominations for the 2022 Society of Ohio Archivists Merit Award.
The award is given to individuals or organizations that have by excellence in deeds, actions, or initiatives improved the state of archives in Ohio over the past year. The award will be presented at the SOA Annual Meeting, which will be held on May 20, 2022 in Columbus.
Applications are due by April 1 8th, 2022.

The Society of Ohio Archivists is pleased to announce four scholarships available to students (2 awards), and new archival professionals (2 awards) with three years or less experience in the workplace. The award will be presented at the SOA Annual Meeting, which will be held in person on May 20, 2022 in Columbus. Applications are due by April 8, 2022.
The scholarship consists of registration to the SOA annual meeting (including lunch), a one-year SOA membership, and a $100 travel stipend. Awardees are required to submit a photograph and write about their experience for publication in the Ohio Archivist newsletter.
The Membership & Awards Committee is responsible for soliciting applications and submitting recommendations to Council. Awards are announced and presented at the Annual Meeting on May 20.
