Registration Open for SOA Annual Meeting 2022: Archives and Sustainability

This May the Society of Ohio Archivists will return in person together for our annual meeting! You are invited to join us on Friday, May 20 from 9am-4pm at the beautiful Columbus Metropolitan Main Library in downtown Columbus, Ohio for a full day of presentations, networking, and an exciting plenary speaker. The theme of this year’s meeting is Archives & Sustainability.

Stay up-to-date on the latest details of the meeting by visiting the Annual Meeting conference page, and follow the conversation online at #soaam22.

The Annual Meeting is being held as an in-person only event. For those unable to attend the in-person meeting, some content such as speaker slides will be made available following the meeting. It will not be recorded. We will be offering a virtual workshop in the fall of 2022 for those interested in online programming. Stay tuned for more information on the workshop later this summer.

Dr. Kathleen Smythe, plenary speaker SOA 2022 Annual Meeting

Dr. Kathleen Smythe, plenary speaker

We are excited to have Dr. Kathleen Smythe, professor, Xavier University Department of History, as our 2022 plenary speaker. Dr. Smythe’s talk “Difference, the Long View and Interdependence,” will focus on what drives her work as a historian and sustainability leader, how she has used archival resources in her sustainability-focused classes, and the future of her work. She will address how archivists can be partners in climate change action.

Sessions: The year’s meeting will feature a mix of topics around the Sustainability theme, and we have an exciting slate of presentations lined up. We will hear about Oberlin College’s archives virtual exhibit exploring its environmental studies program; Youngstown State University on proactively creating and curating collection content from specific, underrepresented groups; and how Bowling Green University is using SNAC. In the “Beyond the Grant: Cultivating Sustainable Next Steps” three institutions will share their work building on successes; Eira Tansey and Ben Goldman will present “Renewable Archives: What Resources do Archives Use and What Do They Need?”; and SOA leadership will host an open forum to discuss SOA member concerns and questions about social justice work in the archives. Due to a family emergency SOA President Sherri Goudy is unable to attend the Member Forum “Crucial Conversations: Social Justice in the Archives” as scheduled. We are postponing the Forum and will announce in the coming weeks whether this will be rescheduled as a separate event or as a SOA/OLHA Fall Meeting session.

We will also gather over lunch for the annual business meeting, applaud awards, and, over the afternoon break have an opportunity for “networking & table conversations.”

Registration: You’ll want to take advantage of Early Bird registration (through April 29) with $45 SOA members; $65 nonmembers; $30 students, as fees go up beginning on April 30. Includes lunch and break refreshments.

Raffle: Be ready to purchase your raffle tickets from the meeting registration form–no tickets will be sold on site. Funds raised from the raffle are critical to SOA’s support of students and new professionals through meeting scholarships.

Much more information and link to register on the Annual Meeting page!
