Fall Meeting with OLHA: Registration Open

OLHA/SOA Fall Meeting, October 4-5, 2024

The Society of Ohio Archivists is partnering with the Ohio Local History Alliance for the fall meeting, Truth and Consequences.  Join us on October 4-5, 2024, at Quest Conference Center in Columbus, Ohio.The front cover of the fall meeting brochure. Registration is now open through September 23!  Sessions and speakers will discuss how the theme of Truth and Consequences relates to the work of our member organizations in collecting, sharing, and commemorating Ohio’s local history.

The SOA track will take place on Friday, October 4 and will feature the following sessions:

  • 9-9:50am: Find Digital Ohio: Advocating and Promoting Your Digital Collections, Jenni Salamon, Ohio History Connection; Cari Hillman & Adam Wanter, MidPointe Library System
  • 10:10-11am: Crucial Conversations: Preserving Undertold Stories, Justice, Equity, Diversity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (JEDAI) committee
  • 11:20am-12:10pm: Designing and Sustaining an Institutional Archives, Brianna Treleven & Rachel Sykes, Shaker Historical Society
  • 12:30-1:45pm: Lunch & Keynote Address, Ulysses Grant Dietz
  • 2-4pm: Intersectional DEI Mini-Workshop, Michelle Ganz, Dominican Sisters of Peace

OLHA/SOA Fall Meeting, October 6-7, 2023

The Society of Ohio Archivists is partnering with the Ohio Local History Alliance for the fall meeting, History as Necessity.  Join us on October 6-7, 2023, at Quest Conference Center in Columbus, Ohio.Ohio Local History Alliance and Society of Ohio Archivists brochure first page.

Registration is now open through September 22 September 30 (extended)! Sessions will discuss a wide array of ways in which collecting, sharing, and commemorating Ohio’s local history can, and perhaps should, become more central in the operations of our organizations.

2022 OHLA/SOA Fall Joint Conference Registration EXTENDED

Joint OLHA/SOA Fall Meeting 2022: Be the Change

September 30-October 1, 2022, in-person at the Quest Conference Center, Columbus (Westerville).

Join the Society of Ohio Archivists and the Ohio Local History Association for our in-person fall meeting! This is OLHA’s annual 2-day meeting with the addition of a SOA track on Friday, September 30, serving as SOA’s fall conference. Come for SOA’s sessions or come for the entire conference!

For the SOA track we have 3 panels, plus the discussion session Crucial Conversations: Social Justice in the Archives. Panel sessions cover Grants for Your Institution: Where to Find Them and How to Get Them with Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board members; From Skin to Skeleton: Pulling off the “Illustrated Human” Exhibit and Lecture Series at the Henry R. Winkler Center for the History of the Health Professions with University of Cincinnati staff; and Beyond the Grant: Cultivating Sustainable Next Steps with Bowling Green State University, Kent State University, and Lakeside Heritage Society representatives.

The 2021 annual Ohio Local History Alliance and Society of Ohio Archivists fall meeting (virtual), was held Thursday September 30-Saturday October 2, with the theme of Challenge Accepted: Overcoming Obstacles.

Recordings are available for the plenary sponsored by Ohio Humanities, “Making the Local Universal: How Hidden Histories in Ohio Communities Can Broaden Audiences and Bring More Support,” with Dr. Anna-Lisa Cox; “Making Your DPLA Harvest Go Farther,” with John Dewees and Penelope Shumaker; “Community Partnership for the Preservation of Jewish History in the Mahoning Valley” with Martha Bishop, Hannah Klacik, Kayla Metzger, and Sarah Wilschek; and “Lessons Learned: Adapting Collections Care in a Global Pandemic” with Dyani Feige.
