Call for Volunteer: SOA Nominating Committee Member

The SOA Nominating Committee Member Opportunity helps shape SOA’s future by collaborating to recruit SOA Leadership candidates and prepare for the 2027 SOA Election

What to Know: Nominating Committee members collaborate to recruit candidates for SOA Leadership, serve a 2-year term, and refrain from serving as an SOA Leadership candidate or elected SOA Leadership member while serving on the Nominating Committee. Nominating Committee members for 2026-2027 may also help plan a Coffee Chat providing information to potential candidates. Committee work will take place through virtual meetings and email, with the bulk of the work expected in December-May.

Mentorship Survey Now Open

During the Spring 2025 SOA Annual Meeting, members voiced interest in an SOA mentorship program during the final Crucial Conversations session.  This led to the creation of a task force charged with surveying the membership and exploring possible formulations for a mentorship program that meets the needs of the member base.

Please complete the SOA Mentorship Survey to let the task force know your thoughts about how SOA can best support mentorship for its members!  Survey closes May 20, 2026.

Call for Nominations to SOA Leadership 2026

The SOA Nominating Committee announces a call for nominations for:

  • Vice President/President-Elect,
  • Treasurer,
  • Member of Council, and
  • JEDAI Committee Co-chair.

Self-nominations and peer nominations are welcomed and encouraged. We also encourage nominations from new professionals and/or individuals seeking to get involved in a professional organization for the first time. All positions are for two-year terms of office, except for the VP/President/Past President cycle, which is one-year in each position (a total commitment of three years).

If elected, you must be a current SOA member in good standing by the beginning of your term and willing and able to attend monthly council meetings and business activities (virtually or in person).

The election will be held during the SOA Annual Business Meeting, which will occur during the SOA Annual Meeting on May 14-16, 2026. Prior to the election, candidates will be required to respond to a question printed in the Ohio Archivist.

Nominating Committee Seeks Two Members

The Society of Ohio Archivists Nominating Committee is seeking two new members to join the committee.

Responsibilities: Committee members work collaboratively to identify and recruit qualified candidates for SOA leadership positions. Nominations are generally sought in December and January, with elections during the Annual Meeting in the spring, and terms beginning at the end of that Annual Meeting. Committee members are expected to serve for at least one election cycle, and work is conducted through email and virtual meetings.

Who Should Apply: Any SOA member who is not currently serving in an elected position is welcome to apply. This is a great professional service opportunity where you can help support SOA’s continued growth and work.

Applications are due on Friday, October 31, 2025.
