Flotation Bags [UA_GoodyearPhoto_2150_69_Apollo_flotation_1969_reduced20cropped]. Goodyear Aerospace Corporation designed and made flotation bags that were located in the nose cone of the Apollo command capsule. If the capsule splashed down nose first into the water the astronauts would pull a lever to inflate the flotation bags to turn the capsule upright and keep it in position while the astronauts exited into the life raft. Flotation bags were deployed on Apollo missions 7, 8, 11, 12, and 13. From the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company Records, 1969, The University of Akron, University Libraries, Archival Services.
